Guidelines for Meeting with the Other Party

1. Create a comfortable and safe environment
– Agree to work towards solutions that feel good for both parties
– Agree to speak with consideration and respect
2. Take turns listening
– Demonstrate your desire to work towards solution by reflecting back your understanding of the other person’s perspective
3. Brainstorm possible solutions
4. Choose solutions that are mutually satisfying
5. Make a commitment to honor your agreement
If any any time during your discussion communication breaks down and either party feels frustrated, take a break or agree to get assistance.
